Akron, Ohio – September 22, 2010 The monster earthquake of January 12, 2010 that threw Haitians into catastrophe also shook humanitarians the world over into action to deliver an avalanche of aid.
VSAT Systems, serving Haiti and the Dominican Republic for nearly ten years, swiftly extended excess transponder space provided by our satcom suppliers Telesat and Intelsat, to allow unfettered access to satellite Internet throughout Hispaniola.
VSAT Systems also made a special page on its website to describe in the most detail ever the equipment and its pricing, and the rough siting parameters for establishing a satellite link in Port-au-Prince given the two satellites VSAT Systems offers.
In response, in the months following the disaster, existing customers were replacing equipment damaged by the quake, and new customers were installing for the first time. VSAT Systems delivered satellite Internet solutions to customers such as the Hospital Sacre Coeur in Milot, Haiti, and for a bridge building project funded by the United States halfway between Port au Prince and Cap Haitien.
To better support customers through Central America and the Caribbean, VSAT Systems fully implemented use of T11N by the end of November. T11N is a new satellite that provides stronger service and broader reach -- we even extend our reach into northern Colombia.
Our VARs, VNOs and dealers throughout the Caribbean and Central America are delivering backhauled wireless Internet to communities, travel destinations, and Internet cafes throughout the region. Satellite-backhauled wireless Internet invites citizens and travelers alike to connect to the Internet in remote locations, while property owners can earn revenue from providing the service.
VSAT System’s autopointing dishes have been a favorite of first responders and energy exploration firms throughout the region. The dishes can be mounted on the customer’s vehicle, in a flyaway case, or on the heavy-duty Mobile Satellite Trailer we developed in-house. The trailer gives the customer a robust platform containing communications electronics as well as gasoline-powered generator.
