VSAT Systems VAR-K - An established player in the satellite ISP industry
VAR-K is an established player in the satellite ISP and hardware industry and is a reseller of several operators. VAR-K's wide range of customers includes high end residential customers, government agencies and remote businesses.
With a growing customer base of government affiliated entities and high end business users, the current commercial grade service plans offered by VAR-K
no longer catered to current business needs. Demand from a growing base of high end business users with specific bandwidth requirements and stringent security prerequisites led VAR-K to collaborate with a different provider who would not only meet current demands but also be future ready.
Challenges
- VAR-K was unable to meet business demands and support existing customers. Reason: current providers were unable to provide guaranteed access speeds or support high end plans.
- The 'unlimited' plans had extremely low 'actual' upload speeds which severely complicated routine data transfer operations conducted by business users.
- High reliability was one of the major reasons for customers choosing VAR-K's
satellite Internet as opposed to terrestrial alternatives in remote places. Their current partner failed to live up to their ‘always on’ promises.
- Reason: VAR-K's current provider primarily focused on providing commercial grade service levels. This led to routine downtimes due to technical failures, power outages and extreme weather conditions making their service marginally better than terrestrial options.
- VAR-K required co-location services for a few of their customers. Neither VAR-K nor their satellite technology partner operated a sophisticated data center. Questions about data privacy and security were routinely asked by customers who were agencies funded by the U.S. Government.
Solution
- High end VSAT Systems service plans provided speeds of up to 4 Mbps down and 2
Mbps up with CIRs of 2.55 Mbps down and 896 kbps up. These speeds, comparable to high end terrestrial connections, fulfilled bandwidth intensive business needs.
- This, along with metered and high throughput plans specifically catering to a targeted audience enabled VAR-K to meet current needs and also address a growing market.
- These performance levels were provided to all types of customers, regardless of their location within the coverage footprint. This
was possible because VAR-K, through VSAT Systems, was able to provide
business-grade hardware and supporting service levels. All this, at competitive
prices because VAR-K is entitled to purchase equipment at discounted rates and
and also receives commissions based on aggregate monthly billing.
- Managed networks from VSAT Systems, the backbone technology provider resulted in near 100% uptimes for VAR-K's customers.
- As a VAR partner, VAR-K had access to superior teleport facilities, complete with earth stations, satellite hubs each having multiple levels of redundancy. And a 24/7 tech support team to address end-user issues.
- VSAT Systems’ state-of-the-art data center having military level security standards was an ideal co-location environment for security conscious customers. The ability to manage data remotely and securely added value to VAR-K's service offerings.
- VAR-K has since reached out to not only a wider market by adding more competencies but also by offering value added services to their existing customers.
